One truck. One guy. Fifteen years.

You'll know who's coming, because it's the same person who answered the phone and wrote the estimate.

The short version

R Squared is Ryan Reed. Twice, apparently.

I started framing houses in Greeley at nineteen because a friend's dad needed a second set of hands and I needed a truck payment. Spent about eight years in production framing and finish carpentry, then four running a remodel crew.

The remodel work paid better and I liked it less every year. What I actually enjoyed was the last two days of a job — the punch list, the thousand small things that turn a construction site back into somebody's house. So in 2011 I stopped doing the big jobs and started doing only the small ones.

Turns out that's a real business. Most people in this town don't need a contractor. They need someone who'll show up for a two-hour job, do it right, charge a fair number, and not act like they're doing you a favor by answering the phone.

The name is a family joke — my dad's a Reed too, and every piece of mail addressed to "R. Reed" caused an argument for about twenty years. Squared it is.

By the numbers

  • 15 years on the tools, 8 of them in framing and finish carpentry
  • 1,800+ jobs completed across Northern Colorado since 2011
  • ~60% of work each year is repeat customers or their neighbors
  • $0 spent on advertising until this website. Make of that what you will.
  • 1 truck, and it's usually the one with the ladder rack out front

How we work

Four rules, and they don't bend.

The estimate is the invoice

If we quoted $400, you pay $400. The only time that changes is if we open something up and find a problem — and then we stop, show you, and re-quote before doing anything else.

Two-hour arrival window

Not "sometime Tuesday." If we're running late you get a text before the window closes, not an hour after it. Your time is worth the same as ours.

We leave it cleaner

Drop cloths down, shoes off or booties on, shop vac before we go, and the debris leaves in the truck. You shouldn't be able to tell where we worked except that it's fixed.

We say no out loud

If a job needs a licensed electrician, a plumber or a structural engineer, you'll hear that on the phone — not after we've already billed you two hours to figure it out.

One year on labor

Every repair is guaranteed for twelve months. If it fails in normal use, we come back and fix it free. No arguing about whether it counts.

You get a real person

No call center, no dispatcher, no "your ticket has been assigned." Text a photo at 7pm and you'll usually hear back before nine.

The paperwork

Boring, but you should ask.

Plenty of people working out of a truck in this state carry none of this. Ask whoever you hire — us included — and ask to see it.

Note that Colorado has no statewide handyman license — anyone can print a business card. A license number on its own means very little; the insurance certificate is the document that actually protects you. Ask for it every time.
